BUDLEIGH Salterton made the perfect start to the North & East Division in the Devon Football League, recording an impressive 3-0 win over Witheridge in the inaugural game on Friday night.
Despite the gloomy weather, Budleigh put on a great show, on and off the pitch. Budleigh Ladies Football Club put on much of the hospitality and the men’s team did their stuff with a fine performance.
It was all about a sizzling first-half display from the Robins, as Harry Gibings opened the scoring on just six minutes. Sam Hollis doubled the lead on 22 minutes and Gibings struck again before the interval.
Witheridge had their moments after the break but could find no way past the Budleigh defence, and a great start to life in the DFL for the home side.
